Transfer to Assisi

Jun 4, 2026

Nestled on a hill between Mount Subasio and centuries-old olive groves, the town of Assisi is visited by millions of people each year who travel to see outstanding examples of early Renaissance art and to appreciate its religious significance. During our visit, we’ll experience both aspects of this historical city at the Basilica of St. Francis, where Giotto’s painted frescoes illustrate the life of one of Italy’s most beloved saints. Here, in one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in all of Italy, the remains of St. Francis are entombed in a stone crypt above one of the altars. Our expert local guide will also lead us to the nearby birthplace of St. Clare, a noblewoman, who, upon taking a vow of poverty, founded the Franciscan Order of Poor Ladies in the year 1212.

  • Morning: We’ll depart from our hotel for the two-hour and 30-minute transfer to Assisi. Our Tour Director will provide a quick introduction to the area before giving us additional free time to explore on our own.

  • Afternoon: We’ll enjoy free time for lunch, then join a 45-minute guided tour of the St. Francis Basilica, followed by additional free time for further exploration.

  • Evening: We’ll board our bus for the transfer to our hotel, followed by dinner upon arrival and check-in.

  • Today, we’ll see: The Basilica of St. Francis
