City of Athens

Today we’ll venture further into the ancient city of Athens, where we’ll see the Olympic Stadium that hosted the first modern Olympics in 1896. We’ll also visit the Acropolis to view the Parthenon, perhaps the world’s greatest architectural feat. We’ll also see the Temple of Athena Nike, which once housed a golden statue of the goddess, her wings clipped to prevent her from flying off and deserting the city.

• Morning: We’ll depart from our hotel and meet our expert local guide for a three hour and 30-minute guided bus tour of Athens. Our tour will include a photo stop at the site of the 1896 Olympic Stadium as well as a drive by all major sites throughout the city. The final hour of our tour is on foot at the Acropolis where we will visit the Parthenon. Our tour will end at either the Parthenon or in the Plaka District.

• Afternoon: We’ll enjoy one hour of free time for lunch, after which our Tour Director will lead us on a one-hour walking tour followed by additional free time.

• Evening: We’ll return to our hotel for dinner.
