City of Lucerne
Jun 1, 2026
Today we'll visit Lucerne, where the majestic Swiss Alps rise behind the shores of Lake Lucerne and provide the stunning backdrop to one of Switzerland’s most picturesque cities. During our stay, we’ll see the moving Lion Monument, or Löwendenkmal, a sandstone statue commemorating the Swiss Guards slain in the 1792 Paris storming of the Tuileries. Later, we’ll follow Lucerne’s winding cobbled streets past fairy-tale houses to the Chapel Bridge, or Kapellbrücke. As we stroll along this covered bridge, which dates back to medieval days, make sure to pause and admire the colorful murals overhead.
Morning: We’ll depart from our hotel for the one-hour transfer to central Lucerne. Our Tour Director will lead us on a 20-minute walking tour to see the Lion Monument followed by a 45-minute tour of central Lucerne and the Chapel Bridge. We’ll then enjoy an early lunch as well as free time for further exploration.
Afternoon: This afternoon we’ll enjoy a one-hour Swiss Alps experience, beginning with a boat ride across scenic Lake Lucerne, followed by a cog railway ride to the top of either Mount Pilatus or Mount Rigi. We’ll enjoy the views from the mountain top before taking the cable car descent back down. Note that warm clothes and appropriate shoes are recommended.
Evening: We’ll return to our hotel by bus for dinner.
Today, we’ll see: The Lion Monument The Kapellbrücke Lake Lucerne
