Packing Tips

General Packing Considerations:

Carryon
Pack essentials in your carryon when checking luggage. Don’t necessarily assume your luggage will arrive at the same time as you. Travel-size toiletries, a clean outfit or two, medications, valuables and electronics should always be carried with you.

Footwear
Cobblestone streets may be quaint; however, they aren’t always the easiest to walk on and can make for sore feet even if you don’t normally have discomfort. Depending on the city, these streets can also be hilly, slippery when wet, and uneven. Ensure your travel shoes are properly broken in prior to departure.

International Travel Adapter
Purchase an international adapter that works around the world. Ensure you choose an adapter that also functions as a voltage converter as well as a surge protector.

Luggage
Wheeled luggage that is easy to lift and maneuver is essential for airport transit and travel between destinations. Also, consider using packing cubes as they help maximize the space in your bag. Once emptied, these cubes may then be used for dirty clothes and simply turned upside down.

Pajamas
Save space in your luggage by not carrying traditional pajamas. Choose two items that you’ll use for other activities but may also sleep in such as leggings, t-shirts, etc.

Prescriptions
Carry hard or electronic copies of prescriptions for all medications as well as glasses and/or contacts just in case anything happens to any of these items. Ensure these items are packed in your carryon rather than in your checked luggage.

Raingear
Come prepared in any season by carrying a small travel umbrella, as well as a raincoat or rain poncho.

Sunscreen
Sunscreen is essential, especially for lighter-complected travelers. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of high-SPF sunscreen.

Tracking Device
Given recent disruptions throughout the airline industry, travelers are encouraged to place a Bluetooth-enabled tracking device (such as an Apple AirTag or a Life360 Tile) within any luggage they intend on checking.

Water Bottle:
Save money by carrying your own refillable water bottle. Drinking fountains and refill stations are readily available across all of Europe.

Weather
Consult an extended forecast in advance as well as three days prior to departure. Determine approximately how many days you will be in warm versus cold weather. Weather conditions vary, especially on itineraries with multiple destinations.
